On Thursday, December 14th, the World Language Honor Society (WLHS) held its annual induction ceremony in the auditorium. Despite the postponement due to the blackout on Tuesday, the night was a success! Since the club’s founding in 2019, students have pledged to promote friendship between the United States and countries around the globe by devoting their time to the study of world languages.

Opening the ceremony were Theresa Scudiero, Director of Social Studies and World Languages, and Carina Morales Hauser, WLHS’ advisor. They stressed the utmost importance of appreciating and respecting different cultures. Furthermore, they expressed the standards that members should expect to meet and praised the academic success which each student presents in their language classes.

Following suit was the Candle Lighting Ceremony carried out by WHLS’ Board of Officers: Co-Presidents Emily Feil and Laika Khan, Public Relations Officer Ana Ramirez Angulo, Secretary Victoria Rodriguez, and Vice President for Treasury Jackelyn Sanchez; each candle representing a key aspect of honor to the society.

Finally, after the WLHS pledge was given by a representative of each language, Mrs. Hauser introduced the thirty-nine members: Jaiden Almodovar, Kayla Carney, Anabell Cipra, Erick Cisneros, Paola Cortez, Julianna Dernbach, Genevie Duarte Cardenas, Michael Ducorsky, Allison Evagelista, Emily Feil, Samantha Feigold, Joseline Flores-Jimenez, Jason Flores-Jimenez, Laysha Garay Gomez, Mikella Gray, Maria Guzman-Amaya, Alexandra Herandez, Ariana Jara, Laika Khan, Anna Korzeniewski-DeArmas, Angnery Leon Goris, Kirsten Lilly, Gabriella Moreira, Thomas Morelli, Mikee Althea Natindim, Meredith Osorio, Eliana Park, Yadison Paulino Vargas, Ana Ramirez Angulo, Shea Rehnback, Erika Rios, Victoria Rodriguez, Leah Sanchez, Jackelyn Sanchez, Zayuri Sanchez Chunga, Luciana Tello Leon, Aysu Unver, Hannah Zhou and Zuleyka Zurita.
